The Torrefied Maple Shaft (Kielwood) is a performance upgrade for players who want the natural feel of maple with modern consistency. Each shaft starts as select hard maple that undergoes controlled torrefaction, a high-heat, low-oxygen treatment that caramelizes the wood's natural sugars and transforms it into kielwood.

Torrefaction gives kielwood three advantages over untreated maple:

  • Dimensional stability — the shaft resists warping and stays straight through humidity and temperature swings.
  • Reduced moisture absorption — the wood takes on less humidity, keeping the hit consistent session after session.
  • Firmer, crisper hit — treated wood transfers energy with less vibration, for a solid feel close to carbon fiber with genuine wood feedback.

Why Players Choose This Shaft

The pro taper and hand-finished surface give a smooth, quick stroke through the bridge hand. The result is a quieter, more controlled hit with noticeably lower deflection than standard maple.

Care

Kielwood needs far less maintenance than untreated maple. Wipe the shaft with a dry cloth after play and store it away from heat sources. Do not sand or oil the shaft — torrefied maple is sealed at the factory and should stay that way.
